Each year the community joins representatives from
- The Nature Conservancy (TNC)
- Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Heritage Division, and
- Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks, Parks Administration, Environment Programs and Facilities
in an inspection of the Little Patuxent Oxbow Lake Nature Preserve. The purpose of the inspection is to monitor the health of the preserve. The State, County, and TNC volunteers each take issues that arise during the inspection back to their respective organizations to address.
The Oxbow Lake and the surrounding uplands are owned by the State and County. The Russett Community Association owns and maintains the lookout and entrance into the preserve. Participation in the annual inspection by community members is voluntary. If you would like to become involved in learning more about the preserve, consider joining the annual inspection in 2006.
